i fuckin loved this book
which, reading other reviews i know is a drop in the ocean of mixed feelings.
The biggest complaints made by other readers are that it’s very quip-y. And the chapters are like 3 pages long and end on a cliffhanger most of the time.
Now for me, who has the attention span of a goldfish, and a deep hatred of dry ass Sci-Fi novels, this book is absolutely perfect. And the main character is bi, which i love, and has an fwb relationship with her hunk of an engineer (who is very sweet, respectful, funny and loveable, as all good men should be).
ITS JUST FUCKIN GOOD, I LIKED IT A LOT. The main characters are funny, competent, and just all around cool. There are definitely jump scares in this that read like a tv show, and it’s super fun to read. Books like these remind me why I like YA, they can have more fun!

Okay, the thing is, I just didn’t care about the plot all that much. It was thrilling but it didn’t pull me with it.
The characters were amazing though and I found to love so many of them. They pulled me through the book and I ended up caring a lot about them. And especially space monkey proved once again that himbos are the best.

One of my more anticipated releases for 2020 from a debut author, I picked up Crownchasers for the pansexual protagonist and because I love sci-fi. However, this book came off a bit differently than I was expecting for a galactic adventure quest. I had seen content notes (several provided by the book’s own author) prior but, those unfortunately aren’t expansive. I was caught unawares from the start.

The prologue has a character on a final task that they kill themselves once completing for example.
cw: dependence/alcoholism?
In general the main character doesn't only use alcohol but, is drunk more than once and for a large period.
I would want to go on with notes however, it honestly got exhausting.
The series has the makings of an exciting sci-fi adventure. Inopportunely though, the story was challenging at the time I read it. Plus, the second in the duology is supposed to be darker. I am still going to pick up Thronechasers too but, it’s going far back in my TBR maybe to revisit the series at another time. YMMV

I was definitely entertained, i will definitely be reading Thronebreakers and i do enjoy a fast paced sci-fi adventure and this sure was an adventure!

Firefly meets Amazing Race in this fun space race story that is a story of friendship, galactic conspiracy and a race to the throne all in one. Alyssa is the niece of an Emperor but she is in no way wanting to lead the Empire. That is until her Uncle dies and initiates the Crownchase which hasn't been enacted in hundreds of years. This book had so much of what I love in a story...there was humor, there was a reluctant and flawed heroine, there was friendship, diversity, and even some slow burn romance. I laughed out loud at many moments and was also on the edge of my seat throughout most of the book. Crownchasers was well written and even though its only January I know this is a contender for my favorite read of year.....I can have book 2 now please?!?
