An epic and gripping story! My big gripe is the sex. Imo Claire and Jaime are unusually randy for people in their forties. My god they’re like rabbits. I get maybe for the first few months after reuniting, but by this point it’s been several years. Also, I’m slightly disturbed by how thin the line is between violence and sex for the men. Jaime and Roger are both constantly wanting to either beat their women or have angry sex with them. I don’t like it, and I don’t think it’s a healthy precedent to set for readers who have yet to be in a monogamous relationship. I was willing to let it slide with Jaime, since he was literally raised in a much different time (though this doesn’t excuse people from today who enjoy reading it and might see that as good for themselves), but Roger is from the 60’s/70’s. That mindset it a bit barbaric for him.

I also feel like Jaime and Claire get pissed at each other for reasons that don’t fit with their anger. They both act truly childish and won’t listen to any reasoning.

There were definitely some slow parts that I felt uncomfortable with. I just wanted the next big issue to be resolved, but I’m left with chapters of monotonous descriptions of farming and stuff. I keep feeling like something bad is going to happen and I’m being lured into a false sense of security. And usually I am - it just takes longer for that other shoe to drop.

Consistently and thoroughly impressed by the sheer extent of research and talent Gabaldon invokes in her series. In addition to her undeniable skill as an author, her knowledge of human emotional nuances is remarkable. I love the how she describes every scene down to the minutest detail and brings countless diverse characters to life. I am utterly in awe of her writing and research abilities, to say nothing of creativity.

The story is starting to get a little strung out and a little old.

Okay, I'll read one more....

Claire and Jamie are now in North Carolina. Breanna goes through the stone circle to find them and Roger follows. As with the others, it needed more editing, but it was a good story.

This series just keeps getting better. There was more humor here - not forced, but the sort of humor that naturally arises after a long, close relationship - and I loved seeing Jamie from another viewpoint. The details were fascinating too, especially those around children and the running of households in the 1770s.
