I really enjoyed this. Listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Brooks himself, which does not surprise me after reading this. His movies are some of the ones I’ve watched the most, and easily the ones that make me laugh the hardest. It’s fun to hear the process behind what it took to get them made. What an incredibly full life this man lived!

At 95, the legendary Mel Brooks continues to set the standard for comedy across television, film, and the stage. Now, for the first time, this EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner shares his story in his own words.

And, oh boy, he has a lot of words- mostly for himself. HE sure has a lot of lifelong friends and he tells us all of them.
I've enjoyed many of his films, but some of his humor doesn't do much for me.
I liked hearing about Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles.
There was a lot I skimmed through, though.

What an absolutely delightful listen! Brooks breezes through his life and career with all the charm and humor he has always shown. He is a natural born storyteller, and listening to him narrate is a wonderful experience. He seems to have valued every experience, always finding the positive side. He is by no means humble in his accomplishments, but neither is he arrogant. He is just immensely successful and is matter-of-fact about it, while also acknowledging that he did not act alone. This is not a gossip book; he has nothing but praise for his friends and collaborators, taking pain to mention most of them by name. It is a big book (15 hours on audio), but it was never a drag.
