It was very intriguing, but I don’t see myself picking up any of the other books. Like many YAs Avery felt like a very 2D character compared to everyone else. And the rest seemed like caricatures.

Fast, Fun read

I didn’t read what this book was about before diving in. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s fast paced and enjoyable, but I didn’t feel emotionally connected to any of the characters. The plot twist was pretty obvious, but the rest of it kept me guessing. But there was still with something missing with the plot or the dialogue. I can’t put my finger on it. I was also disappointed in the ending of the first mystery.
There’s no way that there wasn’t a picture of Toby somewhere in the house. It was pretty obvious from the beginning that he was the long lost son thought to be dead. Also the ending of the game just being that the family needed to stick together and air their dirty laundry?  very frustrated by this, but I digress.
I’m curious to see how this mystery continues in the next books.

what a story omg this book goes from plot twist to plot twist and it’s like we, readers, become part of the game and we try to resolve it with the characters
and the foreshadow of the end!!!
i need the second book like right now i need to know what happens next

I liked the book but nothing more. I expected to be trying to guess things along the characters because of the clues but that wasn't the case. We see the characters discovering things in this imaginary house but we can't make any assumptions. That's unfortunate. Let's see what the next books hold.

Nice mystery / escape room style read. Short chapters worked well and kept the pace of the book nice and quick. I have to say I did work out a key part of the plot really early on but it didn't take away any of the enjoyment.

I would have enjoyed learning a bit more about the Hawthorn brothers as it feels like they all have interesting stories behind them. I also felt some parts of the story were kind of brushed over / rushed past when I had hoped for a bit more info.

Overall really enjoyable read and looking forward to picking up the next in the series.
