A tale of friendship and helping others in their time of need. A great look at not underestimating anyone’s contributions because of their size. All in all I liked the book but felt it was a bit lengthier than it needed to be.

Los libros ilustrados son una de mis cosas favoritas, pero últimamente solo he leído algunos publicados en los últimos años (a excepción de Dahl o Sendak a los que siempre regreso), así que cuando encontré la ilustración de un barquito que me gustó, y vi que pertenecía a un libro infantil no taaaan conocido y publicado en los 70, me emocioné y quise leerlo.
La historia de Amos, el ratón enamorado del mar, y Boris, la ballena amistosa que va camino a África, dura poquito más de 30 páginas pero es preciosa de principio a fin. La amistad que nace entre ellos es el tipo de amistad que me gustaría tener, una que no necesita de contacto constante pero es tan fuerte que ni el tiempo ni la distancia (ni la sal del mar) pueden desgastar.
Las ilustraciones, también del autor y que fueron la razón por la que quise leer el libro, son sencillas pero capturan a la perfección la historia de estos dos amigos.
Me gustó mucho mucho (el final me hizo llorar, pero bonito) y quiero leer más de William Steig :’)

What a sweet story about friendship! Steig's writing, as always, is both witty and brilliant.

Tonight both kids wanted to hear the story. Amos is a mouse and Boris is a whale. They make unlikely friends and yet each is perfectly suited to help the other out of a life threatening situation. I got teary-eyed reading this. It was very touching.
The art work almost looked like water colors and maybe it was. It fit in with the water theme perfectly. There were many blues and grays like the ocean.
I also loved the word choices. The kids repeated some of the beautiful phrases used in the story and he had some great vocabulary words in there also.
This was a joy to read and the kids enjoyed it too. They gave it 5 stars.

Review is for the English version. A version of Aesop's lion and mouse tale, but very melancholy. I didn't love it as a kid, and my five year old announced it was too sad and he never wants to see the book again.

Such a great story about two very different animals helping each other in big ways. A bit long and dramatic for the youngest kids, but a wonderful story, and as always, great illustrations.
