Like The Iron King, this was at least my second time reading this book - if not my third? I don't know why I kept picking up this series, only to never finish it. But at least that's finally changing!

There was really only one thing that stood out to me the first time I read this - and it's what stood out to me again this time around. Ironhorse is a truly stand-out character. Not only does he "speak in all caps" but he's such a fascinating character. A big, burly iron fey that has a soft spot for the recurring cast. I wouldn't mind a spin-off about his story, honestly!

Meghan is still just as annoying - if not more so. The fact that the book began with Ash telling her not to trust him, to know that he's not good for her, that he'll desert her in his own court, etc., you'd think maybe she'd take a hint and listen, but of course not. The first time he even does the slightest thing against her, she goes absolutely bonkers, crying and acting like a lovesick fool. She's really terrible at listening to the advice given to her by literally everyone else.

The entire time spent in Leanansidhe's in-between realm was really fascinating to me, more so than the first time I read the book. I think it's really intriguing how she calls everyone there "Charles," and of course, that leads to more discoveries along the way.

I find this particular installment in the series to be less interesting than the first, but it does lead us really well into the third book and I'm looking forward to picking that up soon!
