I had a hard time telling who was talking to who. The charaters where of little interest to me and never got up to anything interesting.

The first Jane Austen book I have read cover to cover - and it did not disappoint. She is hilariously witty and writes the characters so well (in particular the self obsessed nature of Sir Walter and Elizabeth).
Naturally, as with a lot of older books, I found it difficult to process sometimes, but that’s to be expected. All in all, it deserves 4 stars because it’s incredible but was slow in parts, the beginning was quite slow I found, but after Anne and Captain Wentworth meet again it because easier to get through the chapters.

A little disappointed by this one, felt very little towards the love story as we're just told Anne is in love at the outset and it's very clear where the story will end. It just didn't endear me to either of its lead characters at all

Anne Elliott, daughter of a pretentious baronet father, with an equally stuck up older sister Elizabeth and a younger married selfish sister Mary, was, at 19, persuaded by her godmother and good friend Lady Russell to turn down Frederick Wentworth's marriage proposal. Now 27, she and the now Captain Wentworth are reunited as her father rents out his manor to Wentworth's brother-in-law. There is embarrassment and mutual avoidance, as Wentworth strikes up a close friendship with another lady Louisa, but they slowly grow comfortable in each other's company. Then Louisa gets concussed, and shy Anne shows her worth as the only person of the party with a mind quick enough to arrange for help and make decisions. The two are separated by circumstances for a period, during with Louisa becomes engaged to another man. When they meet again, Anne is being courted by her cousin Mr Elliott, but eventually she and Wentworth confess their love for each other and get married.
This is probably one of Jane Austen's weaker works. The plot is clichéd and predictable. Anne is in love with Wentworth from the beginning, and Wentworth clearly still fancies her, and besides their embarrassment, nothing really happens throughout that jeopardises the chances of them eventually getting together. Anne is a Cinderella – shy, modest, dependable, with foolish relatives who outshine her in volume but not in character, and it's clear from that she will get her Prince Charming. It's a simple love story, a pleasing feel-good story that never shocks or excites but does achieve its purpose of celebrating loyalty and maturity.
