At the risk of sounding like a broken record....I wanted to enjoy it more than I did. Don't get me wrong it's intriguing in and I adored the concept of the story but at times it just fell kind of flat for me. Loved when Monty and Percy popped up and I really enjoyed the friendships Felicity made. These books will definitely be on my 'need to physically read' list because it might have been the audio that through me off. Still looking forward to the next installment.

This was good fun. Witty writing, adventure and lots of things to say about feminism. I liked the exploration of there not being just one way to be a strong woman, and how stern it was about feminists looking down on women who like feminine things. It was just an all-round nice character arc of some very different women learning from each other. I also liked the message about the futility of trying to make yourself good enough and acceptable enough to men to be allowed to follow a traditionally male path through a system designed by men for men, and the necessity to blaze your own trail instead. Also nice to have an ace main character who's relatively unbothered by it all and just wants to get on with exploring the world and becoming a doctor.

SpoilerOne thing that did bug me a bit was that the brother comes in and saves them at the end. For a novel that's been overtly and explicitly feminist, placing massive emphasis on female autonomy, having men swoop in and save them like damsels in distress left a very bitter taste.

This book was so much fun! Moments of seriousness surrounded by silliness and hijinks. Felicity questioning her own feminist beliefs were some of the most impactful parts to me - when she realizes that it’s not just men not taking women seriously, it’s her. I loved Sim and Joanna and what they added to the story (I’m assuming spelling because I listened to the audiobook), the action was fun, and I loved seeing a book about friendship and supporting other women. I liked seeing Monty and Percy again swoon

I don’t know why but I had so much trouble reading this book. Once I switched to the audio book I liked it a lot more.
SpoilerI was not expecting the dragons though! 🐉 I never read the synopsis so I don’t know if there was a bit of warning but that was certainly an interesting twist of events.
I am looking forward to the next book but will probably do the audio again if it’s available.
