Funny and dark, this was completely different than how I expected it to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it at first-it was suspenseful and had me laughing. However, it started dragging about 1/3 of the way in. Pacing was awkward, and most of the book felt forgettable to me-should’ve been shorter.

The ending creeped up on me and I would have liked to read one or two more chapters, but I absolutely enjoyed it. I thought the piece of romance and then the confrontation at the dock should have been in the movie. But families had to see it... I get it.

Super easy read and it progressed quickly, holding my attention the entire way. I wish there was more writing from the sharks perspective. Some of the writing early in the book describing the shark's movements and experience was super fun and really sucked me in. I felt the affair was kind of odd and didn't really add much gravity to the story even though I do see how it added slight complexity to Hooper and Brody's relationship. I also am not a huge fan of smut in books, especially one I expect to be all about man-eating sharks from hell. Felt a little excessive and just didn't do anything for me. It was a quick, two day brain snack of a famed classic. Worth it, but... the movie adaptation is better. Not often you get to say that.
