I nearly DNFd multiple times…

I am still debating if I’ll ever continue with this series. The end set up an interesting plot, but there was not one redeemable character in this entire book. I hated everyone.

The FMC is so so naive in her narrations, and even though she’s an unreliable narrator I didn’t find anything to redeem exactly how ridiculous she was acting. Nothing she did made sense for a person who’s been through trauma and/or grew past the age of 12.

I very single man in this story is a hot pile of garbage. There was plenty of smutty references in this book and it was all disgusting.

This was definitely not my cup of tea. Maybe I’ll give book 2 a try, but if there ends up being no character development or positive interpersonal interactions, I give up.

I'm going to give the second book a chance (only because its on KU) but I cringed throughout most of this book. It was frequently gross and kind of predictable. I just didn't enjoy it much. Wouldn't compare this to Maas books.

This is an intense read. I’m not sure what I expected but this did surprise me. I do really love Auren and am excited to see how her character continues to develop. I also really enjoyed the dual narration of this audiobook version. Still the violence against women in this story is a lot so it’s not going to be for everyone

I can't express how much I disliked this book. I only finished it because I was convinced that something redeeming must happen.

The fact that this was written by a woman is more disappointing. I understand that the women are prisoners but the fact that the female main character has absolutely no back bone and only wants to have sex with her captor? Boring.

What was the point of this book? It has sexual assault scenes that are very detailed that don't add to the narrative in the slightest.

I enjoyed it overall but hated that it ended on a cliffhanger.

I really enjoyed this book. Just when you think Auren will get a bit of a chance at  some freedoms in her life, things change. Auren’s life is thrown off kilter and she must find the strength to survive and help the other saddles survive as well. Auren reveals something about herself that she’s kept secret all her life. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! How will Auren find her way back to her beloved King without revealing anything else?
