At this point, I'm just accepting that I'm on an emotional rollercoaster. 3.5 Stars

With the last volume was extremely dark, this volume definitely felt a little more easy-going. Readers will see Rick and Carl become reunited with characters that we assumed were dead. Rick is definitely going through a very hard time processing what happened to Lori and the baby. Things do get a little more complex as we begin to see the possibilities of other "colonies" of survivors. The specific group that readers are introduced to in this volume seem to have some working knowledge of how the disease spread and turned humans into walkers. Honestly, I'm nervous about getting attached to anyone or even feeling hopeful about any situation because of the previous installments in this series. Nevertheless, I was happy to see both readers and characters get a little relief in these chapters. I'm still really enjoying the artwork, but I will continuously caution people to be mindful before diving into this.

just like the TV show, as much as everyone hates carl, he needs to be protected at all costs

Yup. Fully invested in these characters in ways I no longer am with the show- even though lots of them are the same. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Bullet Review:

A great improvement over the previous volumes. I don't like Carl/Rick, but the focus on them and only them was a great move. And while I miss a lot of my favorite characters, I think trimming them was the best thing for the story. And adding new ones is good for fresh blood (am loving Abraham, to be honest).

Also, THANK THE MAKER, we are FINALLY going to find out what happened to create all these zombies. Maybe...

But really, stop with the sexist sh!t, Kirkman. Girls aren't crazy, and they don't grow any crazier than men when they become women.

Woah. This volume was REALLY well done. The aftermath of volume 8 is really shown in the internal struggle of the characters, which is something that's hard to really show well in this medium. I'm pretty impressed, and this might be my favorite volume of Walking Dead.

While different than the hit show, well worth a read.
