Narrators in this book were way better than book 1.
THE ENDING GAH.

MAJOR cliffhanger, and this is what I mean, by the time things were really moving plot-wise the book ended. Did it leave me wanting to read the third book immediately? Yes. Am I mad at that? A bit.Graphic: Blood and Violence
Moderate: Self harm, Murder, Alcohol, Confinement, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Kidnapping and Sexual harassment

The ending convinced me to give this 4 stars instead of 3.5 but really there’s no reason this book needed to be 500 pages and I can’t even fathom the next book being 600. I didn’t start really enjoying this book until the last 200ish pages when the tournament started. I couldn’t tell you anything that happened before that, so was it that important? Probably not. But I will say, even though it did take a while, it was worth it. The action of the tournament and the magic was so cool. I even started to like Lila and Kell a lot more. I loved all the Holland content. And that cliffhanger? Come on. So good. Overall I really enjoyed this, I just wish it didn’t take so long to get to the good stuff.

a love interest for our pretty, charming prince RhySpoiler
I also didn't understand the logic behind Rhy and Kell in making Kell join the competition. TO BLOW OFF STEAM??? CATHARSIS??? REAAAAAALLLLLYYYYYYYY???????? i feel keeping you and your brother safe is more important. Hence, i sort of didn't feel bad and i could feel myself agreeing with King Maxim for imprisoning Kell. Lila joining the competition... I like her character at times but there are multiple times when I dislike her when she's being bloody stupid. She seemed to participate out of spite for Alucard?? Like i'm not mad. This fits her character. She is egoistic (at least i find her egoistic)Graphic: Blood and Self harm
Moderate: Violence, Gore, and Sexual harassment
Minor: Confinement

overall a solid sequel, and im so looking forward to the last one, especially after that cliffhanger…i mainly had issues with some of the character development, especially Lila, because i feel like she doesn’t get the same kind of nuance as Kell or even Rhy, especially with everything going on, it feels like she doesn’t ever get the same emotional depth the others do, but hopefully in the next book she will!
