Suspense...suspense...author demonstrates a good understanding of the human condition, realistic characters, though a little predictable...suspense...crap cop-out ending. Three stars only because I could totally relate to the characters and how they found themselves in a situation that spiraled out of control. But *spoiler alert* they never have to deal with the consequences of their actions! Ella's dad finds something- Uh-oh, better kill him instead of dealing with it. Rick is the only one who knows what happened- better kill him off too. Come on! Too convenient! And, hello? What about Amanda's slip-up with the medallion? IRL everything wouldn't have worked out so neatly, and the women would not have lived happily ever after. So- the realism went out the window halfway through. Read something by Gillian Flynn instead (though her stuff is WAY more disturbing).

It started off quite promising. I totally did not see the big twist coming and couldn't wait to see how it all panned out. It ended up being so repetitive (if I had to read about grey eyes one more time!) and the ending was a disappointment.

My heart went out to Ella throughout this book. Desperate to have a child but unable to so when her and Rick start the ball rolling in adopting six year old Soraya I was so happy for her. Sadly though I knew from the genre of the book that things wouldn’t be plain sailing.

Rick I couldn’t work out at first but the more I got to know him the more my opinion of him changed. He is very self centred and at times I could have happily given him more than a slap!

Soraya I absolutely adored. Reading of her and Ella’s relationship was so heart warming.

It’s so hard to not give anything away as the less you know about this story the better. The author certainly takes us on a twisted journey that had me on the edge of my seat as I was uncertain of how it was all going to end and it really made for some proper nail biting reading.

Chosen Child is an exhilarating read that I couldn’t put down. I was so engrossed in the novel that it didn’t take me long to devour it as it’s one of those reads that had me desperate to know the outcome. Loved it!

Just a typical domestic suspense about a woman who wants to adopt a child, a man who is having an affair with another woman and gets her pregnant and oh (by the way) kills her husband in a fight and covers it up, then bails on his pregnant girlfriend. Typical, right. Not really in any way out of the ordinary, but it kept me moving along, so I gave it 3 stars and will read another by this author to see if it's any better.
