This is the story of Ebo. He follows his brother on an attempt to go from Northern Africa to Europe. It’s an important graphic novel to explain the refugee crisis in the part of the world.

really good, frank look at immigration/refugees; several dead bodies in the illustrations, which might be tough for 6th grade, but overall I'd recommend it to 6th & up.

This book was really good at displaying the challenges of being an illegal immigrant coming from Africa to Europe, however, for some reason there is no talk of deportation when you arrive to the Europe and this was written by three white men, even tho there was some influence of real stories. I would say that this one was good, but there are probably similar stories told by people who actually went through it.

3.5*, rounded to 4

There is nothing groundbreaking about the storytelling aspect of this book, but it’s very touching and the subject matter - very important. As a tool in raising awareness and empathy, I think it does a great job - the plight of the characters is realistic and told in a simple and dignified manner. I would have wished for more background information, for more backstory about the connection to their sister. The ending is sad and mind ok abrupt, we don’t have time to grieve and have hope. It’s just done, that’s it.
