It kept me interested, on my toes and was definitely not my genre! If my cousin hadn’t mentioned it I’d have never tried this one-no interest in anything with any gore at all. The storyline was unique and got me through the gore, which was pretty tame, but I am an absolute baby-when it comes to anything with the word “death” in the title, it’s usually a hard pass for me! I loved the various characters and was glad to have done this as an audio. At just the point I thought maybe 7-1-2 deaths was a few too many, things got really interesting & I’m glad I stuck it out.

Quantum Leap meets Agatha Christie.
Aiden Bishop has 8 days to solve the murder of Evelyn Hardcastle. The only problem is he will have to do it while inhabiting 8 different bodies. He will get to see the murder and what leads up to it with several different eyes, each with a different outlook and intelligence level. Really fun. The only thing that would have made it more fun was if he would have jumped into a female host.

I've never read a more convoluted and confusing mystery. Was very happy to reach the end.

A little brain twisty, the ending didn't hit right for me.

Aiden Bishop keeps reliving the same day. The day that Evelyn Hardcastle is murdered. Initially he wakes up in a forest with no recollection of where, let alone who, he is. He stumbles upon Blackheath, a manor owned by the family Hardcastle. Aiden soon finds out that in order to break the cycle, he must find the killer of Evelyn. Tricky part, every morning he wakes up in the body of a different guest and there are others in Blackheath with the same goal.

This book is the thriller I’ve been waiting for. It’s Groundhog Day meets a murder mystery dinner party on steroids and I LOVED IT. The premise is so unique in a world where thrillers can sometimes be a bit predictable. Let me tell you, I wasn’t even close to figuring out the ending on this one. It left me with a “Wait, what?” look on my face, followed by several minutes staring off into space in deep thought.

Technically a DNF. I loved the premise but this book is so tedious and confusing. I got tired of taking notes and constantly referring back to them. Looked up the spoilers about 3/4 of the way through so I could be done with it. I read for enjoyment … and this isn’t it.

wow wtf!! I was addicted to this. The ending feels rushed but whatever it was a good story and beautifully written. Weird and different in the best way possible.

The early reviews I read of this book were mixed, but the last two months, I’ve watched so many high ratings come in, I succumbed to temptation and requested. This was one of the most challenging reviews I’ve had to write to ensure I didn’t give a speck of the fun away.

This book. Wow. The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a book you have to give a chance, and if you do, the pay-off is immense if mysteries are your cuppa.

I’m offering a basic synopsis because it is best to go into this one with all doors of possibility wide open.

Evelyn has been murdered before, countless times. Her parents are throwing a gala, where she will be murdered again. Luckily, Aiden is tasked with solving her murder.

Evelyn’s story is detail-laden. Knowing that, it is on my short list of best mysteries because of its originality and refreshing storytelling.

As I mentioned above, ample patience is required. It is not a book you will be able to speed through, but if it clicks with you like it did with me, it will be a compulsive, addictive, and impossible to put down.

I spent most of the read analyzing and using my noggin trying to piece everything together, and I LOVED THAT. The writing is comforting and warm in its heaviness, and overall, I found The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle to be brilliantly plotted.

Thank you to Sourcebooks for the complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own.
