Elyn bares it all in this memoir. She explains as best as she can the symptoms of living with schizophrenia. After reading The Best Minds by Jonathan Rosen, (she was mentioned in the book) I knew I wanted to read her story and understand the unknown side of the illness people have an automatic negative stigma to.
There are parts in the book I skimmed through because of repetitiveness.
I would have liked to know more about how her family, friends and co-workers dealt with her recurring psychotic moments. However, I understand this was her story. If you enjoy learning about mental illness, this is good one to read.
Moderate: Chronic illness, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Cancer

Elyn Saks does a beautiful job portraying a largely misunderstood and stigmatized mental illness. This book balances the delicate line of being hopeful without minimizing the pain of her experience. I would totally recommend it to anyone who is looking for a glimpse into the mind of someone experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.
