If you’re interested in mental health in any capacity- this is a must read. It’s definitely clear that it was written in the mid-2000s, but so much of it is still so relevant today.

Also just very well written and entertaining!

Elyn bares it all in this memoir. She explains as best as she can the symptoms of living with schizophrenia. After reading The Best Minds by Jonathan Rosen, (she was mentioned in the book) I knew I wanted to read her story and understand the unknown side of the illness people have an automatic negative stigma to.
There are parts in the book I skimmed through because of repetitiveness.
I would have liked to know more about how her family, friends and co-workers dealt with her recurring psychotic moments. However, I understand this was her story. If you enjoy learning about mental illness, this is good one to read.

Saks’ account of living with schizophrenia highlights the importance of autonomy in the treatment of mental illness; a thought-provoking read and an important perspective that warrants further discussion within the medical community.
