My Cat Yugoslavia was a unique and interesting way to portray an immigrant experience.

I would give it 3.5 if I could. I do think the writing itself was very compelling, but I’m finding that I don’t like books that are overly vague or surreal. If I walk away asking “okay but what the heck actually HAPPENED?” it’s just not the book for me. If you like books that leave you puzzled at the end this might be your speed.

I'm having a hard time placing my feelings about this book. One one hand I felt absolutely encaptured by the narrative and the two stories we follow, thinking about them every time I put the book away, and looking forward to returning to them. On the other hand I don't know that I quite understood it all. I'm sure there's some symbolism that's going over my head, but the snakes and the talking cats didn't quite make sense to me. And while it didn't make sense, that also didn't bother me. So I don't know. Maybe I just need to let it simmer in the back of my mind for a while.
