Finally! I've been really wanting books that help me understand the human body and medicine better simply as an owner of one it's really helpful to be better informed. I appreciate it's a difficult request as it's incredibly complex, but it's also really important to increase overall layperson knowledge about this. See: the recent pandemic.

Dettmer does an amazing job in building up from simple concepts to more complex while keeping it incredibly engaging.

I feel like I'm a college-educated immunologist ready to start diagnosing people right away (I'm joking). But Dettmer does an amazing job of simplifying incredibly complex biological processes—it's nonfiction but it reads as easily as any fiction book would.

Exceptionally clear treatment of an exceptionally complex and important subject. I didn't retain enough to say I now understand the immune system, but at least I have an idea of its complexity and the difficult job it does so elegantly.
