I didn't like Yvonne much and therefore, didn't feel overly sorry for her. The story was good, though. An OK read.

I haven't read a book this addictive in a long time. A spur of the moment event turns the live of two individuals totally upside down. This book had so many twists and turns that I was gasping out loud while reading this on the train. This gritty book of lust, betrayal and fantasy makes this book hard to put down

I am a sucker for stories in which someone’s life exudes stability until one event throws that whole world into chaos, and this is one such story. Yvonne Carmichael is a fifty three year old scientist, a geneticist at the top of her profession, in a settled marriage with a good man, and has two grown up children. She is confident as she gives evidence at a parliamentary committee, and then suddenly has a chance sexual encounter with a stranger in the Commons that changes the course of her life forever. A violent crime, a murder, and a court case ensue. A gripping psychological thriller with philosophical undertones that keeps you on the edge of your seat

A clever, subtle story of suspense and deception. Yvonne Carmichael and her adulterous lover stand in the dock at Old Bailey, accused of a heinous crime. Did they do it? And if so, which of them was the instigator, which one the pawn? Do even they know the answer?

This one was truly impossible for me to put down. I had a hectic schedule and couldn't finish it in one sitting, although I desperately wanted to. So much so, that I wound up unable to sleep that night with wondering what came next. The next afternoon, I realized I'd left the book at my office. The thought of not being able to finish it that day was intolerable and I actually turned the car around and drove back to the office to pick up the book.

Which is not only a great advertisement for Louise Doughty's taut, intense prose--it's also a great argument for buying more ebooks in the future.
