I read this book as a challenge from my hubby because he thinks the vampires in my romance novels are lame. This book was good but it tends to drone on about little details that I felt didn’t enhance my reading experience. Also not convinced they’re ‘real’ vampires; they are more like ‘ trill’ like creatures. Overall I liked it, I’ll probably read the rest of series.

I've slowly become a regular consumer of audio books over the years. I decided to give this a try on audio for my second read. I did not expect that James Langton would blow me away with the narration like I did.

For Red Rising Langton sticks to a single voice for Lysander but here he takes on a variety of unique personas that help differentiate between the wide cast of characters.

Necroscope is such a powerful series full of ideas of the sort that make reading enjoyable. A man who speaks with the dead and vampires of immense power come together masterfully. It has many layers beyond that I don't want to spoil.

This series is not for everyone because it is horror and also has many triggers. Check trigger warnings if you are sensitive.

Even though I read this book over 15 years ago, it all came back while reading including some of the plot of the sequels. I can still remember events from the sequels because they are presented so vividly (even though I do not visualize.)

I really enjoyed this book, it was some quality pulpy horror. But its the kind of horror where the characters have a lot of agency to fight the evil. In that way it shares some vibes with Ghostbusters and Evil Deas 2 and Army of Darkness. It has some great world building around ESP, Vampires, and super secret espionage groups! A warming this book has some pretty graphic sex scenes that are surprisingly detailed, so be ready for that to just sort of pop up out of nowhere.

I had no clue what I was reading the whole time, but it was pretty interesting. To be honest, I thought there would be a better balance between vampire, espionage, and eldritch, so I was a bit disappointed. Although, this was still an interesting read. Sometimes it slogged on, but I promise that it's worth it if you keep on going till the end.

For a book/series touted as a "modern vampire classic," I expected more vampire... anything. It's there, but only just.

Not a bad read, entertaining for sure, but it slogs for a while in the first half. Didn't make me want to stop reading, but man, it took me some time to trudge on through.
