they say that thrillers will either have good writing or a good plot, and that finding one that has got both is super rare. this one had neither, which was extremely unfortunate. the premise is that a girly who serially kills bad men (rapists, misogynists, etc)  has a parasocial crush on a true crime podcaster and decides she is going to fabricate a meet cute with him and start a relationship like that. i thought maybe i was in for a beach read with sprinkles of kill all men here and there. boy was i wrong. in addition to it having the most cliche 2013 feminism lines every 4 pages, the romance starts with miss girl being terrible to a shelter dog ?! what the FUCK ?! i immediately hated her but the author seemed to try to make her likable ???? after she did literal animal violence ?! HELLO ????

the book doesnt get better unfortunately. it is extremely cheesy and predictable. the predictability is not fun. i finished this book in 2 days because i could not wait to be done with it.

the only redeeming quality of this book is that the author is queer so upon learning that info the cheesiness and stupidity can be interpreted as kinda camp and an interpretation of what a gay woman thinks straight people are like.

Thank you NetGalley for this audiobook

Book 2 in my roadtrip and I really enjoyed this one!! It was a touch slow in the middle and I honestly expected more of Saffy's POV and previous crimes but the latter half and ending absolutely paid off. I would love to read more of Saffy in the future and more about her previous murders (I don't really care for John tbh, but it does play into my love of books of psychopath women protecting bumbling detectives ala The Kind Worth Killing). The combination of Saffy righting wrongs via murder while also being wildly rich and uptight was very entertaining and the narrator played her voice to perfection. Definitely keeping my eye out for Eat Slay Love!

This was a fun read, just a silly little thriller that was easy to audio read
