Really liked how there was a retelling of a TOS story/ep but also a completely new story that involved the iconic tribbles. Felt very fresh!
However I didn’t like how they changed the OG story for the first one.
Definitely liked seeing more (I think it have just been the one) women included in this production even if I didn’t really like her art style as I felt she made Kirk look a frat boy getting a business degree on daddy’s money.

The first ep was awful (in plot, not in drawing style, the latter was fine). Not only did it screw up with the TOS episode, in which Landru‘s people where no humans and in which neurodivergence was key for success, but it also painted the Federation in an awful light.

The second ep was pure gold, though. Also a rather original story instead of just copying and lightly twisting the work of others.

I appreciate these retellings of the original TOS adventures with the Kelvin Timeline characters. This volume includes Trouble with Tribbles which is one of my favorite episodes. McCoy is by far the funniest character overall. Spock and Kirk seem to have already established a basic sense of trust in one another. I think there is still a lot of space left for them to become closer friends, so I am looking forward to that.

So is this universe like, Darkest Timeline, or what? Well, maybe not THE darkest timeline, as that is the mirror universe, but maybe... second to darkest timeline? Timeline of penultimate darkness? Because that would be AWESOME.

SpoilerOMG the Federation is like evil in the first story based on Return of the Archons. Like, having a mad scientist control some sort of medieval society by the washing of brains was the Federation's experiment all along!
Woah! That's dark!

And then the tribbles episode which is like, yeah! tribbles! but not much else.

These are nice classic-feeling (sometimes straight up classic) stories. I like them.

The Return of the Archons is much darker here than the original. Its also much more overt in challenging Kirk's decision to intervene. The Trouble with Tribbles is also more serious than the original. There is still levity in Scotty's flouting of conventional rules but it would be hard pressed to match the original.
