Bleh. Read it for a book club, then disliked it so much I didn't even end up going. Hate those mysteries that are predicated on some conceit known only to the author. Also didn't find any of the characters sympathetic, or really, that interesting. Thought some of the red herring stuff was a little overdone, and spotted that the 'I' chapters weren't written by Winnie fairly early on. Also thought the weird subplot with Nell was just that...weird. I like my thrillers a little more tautly written. Next.

I listened to the audio boom. It has a great plot twist, but I felt that the story was underdeveloped. Not my favorite.

Pretty good book, but I’m pretty sure if I’d sat down and thought it through I could have predicted the ending. Up until the end I thoroughly enjoyed it, the ending could have been more creative.

This book was okay...it's a modern day crime fiction/thriller about motherhood.
The themes of expectations of women/mothers were interesting, and how the media vilifies victims of certain crimes. The "night" chapters were interesting and I actually re-read them once I'd finished the book. The reveal was alright, but the "sitting down an explaining everything" part was a little forced ( I get that this is needed in a crime novel, but there must be a better way to do it than just having the "bad guy" tell their life story/master plan...?)
It sort of trundled along and I found the plot a bit slow. I found it difficult to separate the mothers and they all seemed one dimensional...except they were all hiding a huge secret each, which all seemed a bit implausible.
Surprisingly, I didn't really feel much for Winnie. I don't know if that was the point; keeping it vague so we're kept guessing?
