I listened to this as an audiobook - the writing is really well suited for this format. The story exposition is really clear, which makes for a purely enjoyable listen. No need to try and guess what was mentioned in one line 3 chapters ago - the book has you covered and reminds you of key info.

I loved the idea of these two characters and they are really well crafted in this book, you're really invested in them and their friendship by the end! Also, great that they are both strong, intelligent, assertive female characters.

I think the other key strength is the excellent pacing of the book, it was really consistent and new info/characters were timed really well. Often at the end of a book you sometimes think.. well they could have cut XYZ or, not sure what happened with ABC. Not here - I can't think of any dull chapters/storylines and enjoyed it beginning to end.

The book sometimes fell into using cliches and the storyline wasn't particularly complicated/nuanced, but overall a really strong, well written book. I cannot wait to read the next one.

DNF'd within first five mins. a line about "she could sell ice to an esk*mo" and if "they prefer Inuit now" like what....

Good enough to keep reading and finish but not that good overall. Characters were pretty one dimensional. Plot not all that interesting either. Pretty standard fair. Nothing special.

I liked the idea for the book. The characters are awful. The detective is whiny. The psychologist at least kind of becomes human as the book goes on. How the relationship between them develops is unbelievable because neither would have been willing to actually take the first steps.

On top of that, the identity of the killer is telegraphed very early. (The drug was a huge clue.)

This is a great start to an interesting new series.  DCI Whitney Walker is on thin ice with her job after a big mistake on her last case.  Dr. Georgina "George" Cavendish is a forensic psychologist who teaches at the University where female students are being murdered.  George found the first victim.  She decides to try to apply her academic background and help with the case.  DCI Walker is not impressed with George and really doesn't want her help.  DCI Walker never went to University and isn't impressed just  become some is educated.  While the two first clash we get to see their relationship develop when the case develops into something more personal.  I enjoyed getting to know the characters.  The mystery was well done.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys police mysteries.  I will definitely be reading more of this series.

This was a fun way to pass some hours while in covid isolation but was not the best of its kind. The plotting was sloppy and I'd worked out the final victim and the culprit before we got there. Not as cleverly written as some.

3.5 - Nice easy listen on Audible but very obvious what was going to happen and the conclusions that Whitney jumped to were not anything I'd hope a real detective would take!
