i've said it before, and i'd say it again: if lidia yuknavitch wrote a book about ear wax, i'd read it.

This was ok with moments of great. When it kept closest to the themes of her memoir (which I loved) those were the strongest stories for me. A lot of the stories ended in a silly twist that ruined a good setup. Obviously a great writer but these stories often missed whatever point they were going for, and left you with a 'so what?' feeling.

Very dark and kind of violent stories. My favorite is the Organ Runner

Lovely, but I'm still chasing the high from The Chronology of Water, and while this was close, it didn't quite get me there.

So these stories are BRUTAL. Probably read them at a time I should read something happier, and more relaxed, but this was hard with a capital H!

They are beautiful though, but... tough.
