Least enjoyable so far though I’m not in the right headspace at the moment to concentrate too hard.

Justice is no easy thing to find.

It is the summer of 1545 and King Henry VIII is getting ready for war with France. In the meantime lawyer Shardlake is summoned by Queen Catherine Parr and given an assignment to travel to Portsmouth and investigate a case of suicide.

Once again C J Sansom had me gripped with his vivid portrayal of Tudor England and the 'simple' case he takes on that turns out to be more complex. Set during the tense time of war with France, Sansom really shows well the life and law of the land in that era. The book might seem slow at first, but the even pace is necessary to build the story and increasingly tense and dangerous scenario.

Absolutely wonderful! Shardlake at his best and Barak shines as well. The setting of England preparing for war and Portsmouth at the time of the Mary Rose adds to the tension.

Mein bisher liebster Shardlake!
