I really enjoyed this novella. It does a great job of introducing you to the characters and setting up the plot for the Black Witch. I appreciate getting the origins for the main players

A cute, very quick story on her parents meeting - it was maybe a little too fast

I’m starting the black witch series and decided to read ab the parents first and this is such a. Good intro book.

The parents relationship is so good and especially for an ace perosn like me who doenst understand sexually attraction I GET IT

I just wish it was explained more why he liked her it just felt like a sudden switch but other than that everything is perfect and so fluffy except for the beginning!

Takes place before [b:The Black Witch|25740412|The Black Witch (The Black Witch Chronicles, #1)|Laurie Forest|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1487956992s/25740412.jpg|45580046]. The narrator is Elloren's mother Tessla, and follows her brief capture by the Kelts and meeting Vale, Elloren's dad. While the two hates each other at first, they find themselves wildly attracted to each other. When Elloren is about to be fasted to Malkyn Bane, a really cruel man, Vale steps forward to become her fastmate to save her from Malkyn. But it turns out the two have a lot in common and their magical affinities are a perfect match, and pretty soon they fall in love with each other.

It's a very sweet story and gives us an inside to her parent's lives. For some reason, I feel like maybe her parents are still alive... Well I can't wait for Forest's next book to come out: [b:Light Mage|36631066|Light Mage (The Black Witch Chronicles, #1.5)|Laurie Forest|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1519750235s/36631066.jpg|58394869] and [b:The Iron Flower|35750305|The Iron Flower (The Black Witch Chronicles, #2)|Laurie Forest|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1515505297s/35750305.jpg|57253914]!

You all, I am seriously loving this series! I read The Black Witch last month, really liked it and was looking forward to starting the second in the series The Iron Flower. I was advised by some wonderful new friends to read the novellas first.

I seriously LOVED this novella and wish I would have read it before I started The Black Witch because it gave such a nice background to the world of TBWC and I adored meeting Tessla and Vale. I loved their story so much and now after starting The Iron Flower, I have much more understanding of some of the characters and their history.

This series so far is so good and I would highly recommend starting with this one even before starting The Black Witch but definitely before The Iron Flower!

Read this if you like:

The parents backstory.. This starts slow and a bit boring as a war story but then wives into a love story and unfortunately vastly. The characters are lovable and relatable.. But the war is, of course, full of  racism horrors and violence.. Yet the characters are full and interesting and nice to read about and hear their story
