Alrighty then. This is not my cup of tea, I haven't read a book like this in a really long time. Reading this book I have to give 1000% credit to one of my book clubs. Without book club I wouldn't have picked it up. It was a fast read, but there are definitely lots of problematic things going on in the story. If you have triggers, this book will definitely set several of them off. I came across a few grammatical and spelling errors, but I tried to set that aside for the sake of getting into the story.

Raven is not the kind of character I can relate to on any level. That made the story both interesting and annoying at the same time. All of the characters I kind of put in that same category. I could not understand the motivations of anyone outside of doing it for the money and control. The characters weren't very nuanced, it was all about power and money.

I understand that Ethic is the main character in another series by Ashley Antoinette, but honestly, I don't desire to know anything more about this world. It's not a bad book, it's just that the content isn't for me right now.

If you enjoy street lit, then this will be right up your alley. With all of that said, if you take this book for what it is, it might entertain you for a few hours on a lazy weekend. I anticipate an interesting book club discussion if nothing else.

2.75 stars. I have to admit this type of story line isn’t my cup of tea. After listening to Moth to a Flame, I have zero desire to read the Ethic series. I don’t like stories where the characters just do dumb stuff. Even if the ending was the same, it could have been so much better. I have a headache and that’s six hours of listening to an audiobook that I will never get back. Sigh.

Don’t Fly into the Flame

I’m not the fastest reader but I finished this book in twos and realized I had read it before once i was 90% through it, but it was worth the read especially as an adult.

Raven is a 17-year-old who’s dad is one of the biggest dealers in the game, making her feel untouchable. Wanting to be grown she finds herself on the other side of town and wrapped up in a man her parents warned her about. Mizan was literally the Devil and no matter how hard she tried to get away from him no one could save her. Shoulda listened to what mama said.

I can’t wait to get into the Ethic Series next!

Like A Moth To A Flame!

I was drawn to Ashley when I discovered her on TikTok. She recommended for new readers to start with this book & all I can say is wow! Raven jumped head first into a life everyone was trying to protect her from or better yet prepare her for. This story had me on a real rollercoaster of emotions but I couldn’t put the book down. Excited to read more books by Ashley Antoinette.

I tried to read this book twice and never got past Ch. 3 until recently. I was in a reading funk and needed a mindless plot to help me. Well I’ll give it two stars for that reason alone. I’m definitely ready to read something of substance now. Baby….this book was basura! I’m sorry. I really tried to like it but it was filled with conflicting things. My biggest issue was the lack of consistency in these “BIG TIME” dealers. I use big time loosely bc they were moving like dudes on the corner and not BOSSES. Forgive my language below:

Ch 1-3 took FOREVER to get through. Her family failed her. I don’t know any damn drug dealers who don’t put their kids on GAME! Even if they don’t want them in the life…they still make sure they kids are up on GAME b/c of the life they live…don’t ask me how I know.

Raven is stupid

How does she not see that her dad was being set up after Mizan left the drugs behind
Why didn’t she call ethic after her mom got arrested?
What fbi agents are watching her dad BUT not following up on his death and connecting dots.
How was she involved in a horrific crime with Nikki BUT not further questioned by police?
The next damn day she lets her dad in the house that a horrific crime occurred at and there is no proof that this crime occurred??
Her dad didn’t know about Nikki the next damn day? How did all of this occur in a small time period and not ONE damn person know a damn thing.

She don’t have a cell phone..it’s 2010
Why do y’all like Ethic? He ain’t shit either.
Why is she not abreast to being weary of all people? Sis, you just left an abusive relationship w/ a drug dealer who was at dinner with his potential connect. Did you even tell Ethic this? You know he a snake sis, he not sitting in jail forever. He a snitch boo. Ethic don’t have his ears to the streets?? Wtf type of top dog is he supposed to be?

Mushroom shaped head? Lmao that’s a new one

So all y’all are street savvy but not one person can communicate?
I feel like sis gonna die.
So the nurse said she called other contacts and Ethic, who is Soooo smart, didn’t ask any questions? These people clearly don’t know a damn thing. There’s no way these people are big time this and that but miss key factors

Wow! Just wow! I went into this kind of blind. This book was the talk of a FB group I’m in and I wanted to see what the hype was all about. The themes were difficult, and our main female character Raven stressed me out. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading this book.
