Classic, immediately drawn in and walloped over the head by the fork-tongued pessimism and outrageous humor. Unsurprising that Celine is a monster, but unfortunately that’s what makes the book so remarkable. The middle portion where Ferdinand leaves Molly to return to France will stick with me for a long long time

It was racist and sexist. At times had some good quotes.

The author is an anti Semitic bag of shit who used his talent to foster hatred in France during the 30’s and WWII. That being said, his first novel (which blissfully does not contain any heinous racist delirium) revolutionized how novels were written forever. His prose, the darkness of the subjects covered take you to a long journey through the night, where the brilliance of his craft and side characters truly shine like the brightest stars in an inky sky. It’s not for everyone, but if it touches you, this novel will stick with you.
