I absolutely loved this book! Has to be ine of my favorite dystopian novels yet! I have no idea why, but I was very interested in this book when I watched a short film on youtube that was acting out a scene from this book and how creepy and disturbing it was (but in a good way!). The way the society Connor, Risa, and Lev live in leaves me comparing it to my own. When I walk around school and everywhere I think to myself "I wonder if Unwind was real, would this person be unwound?" It's a weird thought go think of, but its true! My attention was grabbed right from the start and I never put this book down! I had recommended it to me friend and she loved reading it! I love this book! I recommend it to everybody!

This is one of my favorite dystopian YA series- simply because it’s built in a world that could conceivably be ours if things went sideways. I love how the author incorporates real news media from our world to make it more realistic and scary. I also love the message in this series. Unwinding has a complex history in this world, and I love that there isn’t a simple solution.

I really enjoyed this one. Loved the two main characters, Risa and Conner.

2017 review:

That one scene...ugh, I will never get that out of my mind. If you've read this you know what I'm talking about.

A very disturbing read! Interesting characters, a plot that will always keep you on your toes, and good writing. What else you could you want from a book?

(But if you're really burnt out on YA dystopia, like I know a lot of people are, this may not be for you. I'm kind of tired of it too, but this is one of the "original" YA dystopians from before it was a huge trend, so it's a lot more original than a lot of the other YA dystopian series that has been coming out lately.)

I have read three of Shusterman's books, including this one and I discovered an interesting pattern. I like the beginnings of his books and how he sets up his stories and I love all his endings. Unfortunately, I get a bit bored right in the middle of all the action. There's just something missing there for me.

4.5 stars:
THIS BOOK. this book started off with an action-packed scene and the twists never finish.
Conor and Risa are the perfect protagonists, with backstories, motives. Lev is a very good morally ambiguous character and all his decisions are so well thought out and justified.
the love story in this story is so well thought out and though i guessed it very early on in the book, i was still surprised by it when it finally happened.
I loved the plot and honestly can't wait until i get the next books.

This was an interesting idea. And the world they live in is horrifying. And I find that world fascinating. I like Risa and Connor. And Lev changed a lot. But theres just something that didnt grab me. It fell a bit flat. It wasnt as captivating as other dystopian novels. It also felt like a stand-alone. Like almost every big issue was resolved. And so I dont have an urge to go read the rest of the series. So yeah, good but meh.
