I am not an Alex Cross fan. I tried the first book in the series and couldn't get through the first few chapters. I got this book for free and thought I would give it a try. It was pretty good. Without spoiling the end of it I thought it ended a bit abrupt. Not in the epilogue but the book itself. I felt some.of the story could have been removed and made the ending more intense and still kept it the same length. Otherwise I liked it.

Another great entry into the Alex Cross series. Have been reading mostly fantasy this year but it was nice to have an easy mystery read to break things up a ibt.

I mainly tossed this into my bag when I was packing for vacation for two reasons, neither of which are specific to this book. One — because I have approximately a billion James Patterson books at home on my shelves (they’re my guilty pleasure). And two — because I knew I could finish it quickly.

It wasn’t a bad read, but Patterson is very formulaic and I’ve read a lot of his books. The ending was somewhat of a twist, but it dragged on for about 50 pages too long. Once Alex figured out whodunit, it was just like we were wasting pages while waiting for him to get captured/die/participate in the final climax in some way.

I’ve also read the Alex Cross series waaay out of order so I got a little confused about Christine and where she fits into the scenario in later books, since I remember Alex having a different girlfriend/significant other in later books... yet this book ended on a very serious & positive note for his and Christine’s relationship. Who knows...
