Thank you to the publisher and author for the advanced reading copy of Hex Appeal, receipt of which did not impact my review.
Hex Appeal follows Josh Henderson and Essie, after Josh moves to town from the US after he inherits a house in England. Unbeknownst to Josh, Essie and her family are witches and he’s going to forget ever meeting them — but for some reason, Josh is immune to some of their charms and spells. Their attraction to each other grows as the book goes on, but is there something amiss that could tear them apart?
I enjoyed Hex Appeal and think that others would if they liked books like The Ex Hex and The Kiss Curse. I did feel the plot at the beginning and the intro to all the various characters was a bit slow, but it picked up the pace around 50%.

A quick lighthearted read with a bit of drama. Sometimes I felt like it was moving too fast and I struggled to keep up with what was happening. Once I got used to the writing style of switching between characters pov but written in 3rd person it was easier to keep up.

I kind of thought this was another cute silly romance book, but actually got some twist of events towards the end of it, but I'm a bit conflicted if it made it better or not...
I liked reading about the slow burn between Essie and Josh, and it was kind of cute how he kept looking for Beldan House while Essie was always around him, helping around with literally everything else but the one thing he seemed to struggle the most. It was also interesting that no one else knew anything about it, but somehow Josh had the records of how much rent they owed him.
The twist was a bit confusing, cuz now I don't really get what Josh's relation is with the witch hunter, since it seems they're blood relatives of some sort, and also the whole winter spell became confusing because Essie's done it her whole life, but also she's the one that actually started the whole thing to protect witches and well, everyone else, from this evil witch hunter.
I feel like this would've worked better to find out in the beggining, so then we have the whole book to understand what was actually happening, instead of having it squeezed in the last few chapters and leave us - Me-confused AF.

I’d rate it 2.7 because what the heck did I just read? This is not at all what I thought. Fun and a little flirty, sure. Very little to do with an ex and more to do with witches and their interactions with their neighbors and landlords and one another. Not terrible but not as lighthearted as I was hoping for.

It dragged on a little bit but in the end I enjoyed it. I felt that the book didn’t click with me until the end
