okay the age gap relationships are starting to get weird. Robin, what’s going on there?? I feel like this book is just an exercise in “hindsight is 20/20.” You can see the characters making the wrong decisions and you just want to stop them. And let me tell you, boy do these characters make the wrong decisions. Choice after choice after choice. The characters are realistic, but at what cost?? This book was at times very hard to read because it was just so bleak. I’m interested to see where it goes, but also scared.

Again I'm struck how different the tone of this series is compared to the Farseers. Rereading it, I noticed the character growth much better.
