The principals are good, but the positioning of the author and his examples seem out of touch as the are solidly centered on his place as an affluent white man.  Or perhaps, I’m just annoyed he comes off as a jerk despite having good ideas?

Some of this I do naturally, some I want to learn to do, and some I'm not sure about.
I think I listen with good empathy, and this game me a framework for listening even better. For focusing on needs, and for structuring my own statements to be more needs specific and concrete in requesting action. But I think this is a gift, I am not sure it is practical for me to practice NVC with idiots on the internet, and I'm not sure I want to. I'm going to think about that further.

I like the idea of identifying needs, feelings, and the actions taken to fulfill them instead of voicing assessments, judgements, and reactions.

I don't like the tone policing of minorities. Especially Black children.

But I do like understanding how neurotypicals interpret tone over words. They don't hear what is said, they hear the feeling. Even if he repeats himself several times. That explains a lot.

I found the audiobook to be lacking in key Connections because it is abridged. I believe that the full text will be more helpful.

A beautiful breakdown of the power of empathy and how to apply to everyday situations. Easily a top 3 self help book I've ever read. I would have liked the author to phrase some of the NVC approaches in conversational English vs what I perceived as sterile and robotic.
