I thought this would be more of a high fantasy story, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but I was like "I gotta read about this gay trans witch". And I enjoyed it more than I expected. A lot of queer side characters, good storytelling. I'm excited about the next book

I don’t want to be so critical because it is a debut novel.. I was entertained and that’s ALL I ever ask for. Emyr did have me giggling and kicking my feet. The story telling could use some work and it was a lot of telling instead of showing and I hate how common it is for YA books because teenagers don’t have reading comprehension?? I’m not sure but because of that I would only recommend to someone who reads and enjoys a lot of YA and just wants a fun quick read. Will probably read the next one 👍

Honestly, such a fun book. The world is fleshed out, the characters are diverse and interesting, and the character development happens. There are times when you’re like “cmon, man,” but overall the plot is quick enough to keep you hooked even for those somewhat cliche moment. They sometimes over describe some of the themes when they’re pretty obvious (to an adult reader). I was really excited to find the sequel available at my library. A fun, gay, anti-authoritarian read.

I loved this so much! The humor, the characters, the love story, the themes of tearing down a corrupt system. Love it all! Can't wait for Book 2!
