The listeners of our podcast have asked for it, we have hesitated, Cixin Liu has approved it. The fourth book in the Redemption of Earth's Past trilogy that started as fan fiction and then developed into a full forth book in the series. Oh boy, this was definitely something to experience. Extensive recounting of previous events, retconning, internet culture references and a crazy adventure of universal proportions.

If you haven't read the original trilogy, what are you doing here, just stop now and get out of here!

If you did read it and want to experience a very entertaining but not at all up to scratch fanfiction sequel you can consider it. Or just listen to our podcast to find out what it's all about: http://bit.ly/3lPASzK

Moreover, we also discuss the TV adaptation of the Three body problem recently released by Tencent.

Las dos primeras partes del libro suman mucho a la historia de la trilogía (The three body problem), la tercera parte es un deliro cósmico.

Lectura recomendada para quienes disfrutaron de la trilogía original.

Just like the third installation, this book has in large abandoned any and all exploration of morality and the human psyche in favor of space wizards.  The notion that humanity is the most intelligent species in the universe is truly tragic.

A fun continuation of one of my favorite sci-fi series’.

This book definitely reads like fan-fiction at times, but overall it still gets at the vibe of the Three-Body Problem story.

This book has a lot of spiritual influence, with a lot of references to passages from the Bible and a plot connected to the creation and death of the universe.

Overall, it doesn’t have to be considered canon to the 3BP story, but it’s a fun hypothetical. And isn’t that all the original story was?

Even if it wasn't explicit, this is 1000% a fanfic written by someone that couldn't stop thinking about all of the details of their favorite media (complementary). The fact that this was published is fascinating because as a fanfic wrapping up details the way this does is great, but I don't think it's necessary in a more formal setting. The tone does match the series very well, though I do wonder how much of that is due to the same translator.

Originally written as fanfiction. For fanfiction it's quite good, but as canon it's awful
