Didn't really catch my attention at any point, forced myself to stay strong and keep reading but honestly this book is just not for me.

This is one of the strangest books i have read! But yet also one of the most unputdownable.....its actually hard to describe, but i will do my best!

Firstly, i KNOW i need (yes NEED) to read the next book....it wasn't left with a cliffhanger as such but with a yearn to know what happens next.

Its not your normal book - as in fixed character, fixed storyline -a start, a middle and a finish.
This takes us to different people in different times with different tales....

A young girl spreading her wings and falling in love for the first time and running away to get married in the early 1900's....

A young playboy blowing his trust fund in the 2000's and getting obsessed with something he cant explain and no one understands...

A ghost who tells us how she exists....why she exists.....but we don't hear a lot from her, and i really want to!

There is an elderly woman who's so traumatised by the loss of her husband and young daughter she does unspeakable things that in her head she thinks is fine....

A young child prodigy growing up and going to the prom who's been sheltered by her brother through life and has a choice to make.....

This is only book one. I'm convinced the story will unfold as the books progress...but at the same time hoping it doesn't drag on.

My theory is that (probably obvious given the title!) that Onyx Webb in some way or another touches the lives of each of the characters in the book.

I'm intrigued to find out how.

Go into this book with an open mind. No expectations. Don't expect the usual flow of a book. They're like mini episodes of a soap opera. Bear with it. For some reason, its a good read - its written well, if a little quirky! It doesn't take long to read and does make you wonder where its going to end.........

LOVED it ! It has so much suspense in it. There is a bit of love in there but it is mostly paranormal. I really liked the way that it was all split. Into episodes. It is all kind of like reading a TV show, specially since you get so many different stories within an episode. I honestly cant wait for the next installment, specially for Kodas and the Quinns, those 2 are really up my alley, but the again Onyx's story is getting really good as well... SOOOOO I guess I simply cant wait for it all XD
Plus the authors are super nice :3

A bit confusing right now but overall I'm liking it. Ghosts having kids with mortals is pretty weird though. Tough to keep up with all the people/times but I'm about ready to start book two now.

If you could see me, I'd be holding my hand up and rocking it back and forwards in a see-saw movement meaning, so-so. I thought the writing was simplistic, but good. The characters had distinct voices. The editing was clean. The idea was interesting and the authors balanced an impressive numbers of threads that look to be weaving together eventually. An impressive feet when you're covering over 100 years.

However, we're all individual readers and we all have literary qualities we do and don't like. For me two things I'm not hugely fond of is vignettes and leaping back and forwards in time. Unfortunately, that is exactly what this book is. It's set up so that you follow three primary character arcs in three different eras. What's more, we were given very brief snippets, sometimes only a page or two for each one before leaping briefly to another and so on.

I can see what the authors were going for with this narrative choice. It was like getting little tastes of something larger. But, for me, it resulted in not being able to sink into the story, as I was always yanked back out with the changing focus.

Similarly, I'm not sure I followed the need for this to be written in episodes. (Unless it was originally written as a serial or something.) The overall impression I was given—from the too-brief chunks of character POVs, having the story broken into episodes and the unusually large number of new, or previously unimportant, characters being introduced late in the book—was that of disconnection. Like these are all puzzle pieces, but they're all still in the box, yet to be put together.

I did think a few of the characters were a little heavy on their character's characteristic. They were almost caricatures of their type of person—the rich playboy who doesn't know the value of money, the cajun bayou man, etc. And I have to admit I thought the pictures felt a little gimmicky.

Lastly, for those to whom such things matter, there does seem to be a religious, or at least spiritual, theme being established in the storyline.

All in all, an interesting read that I think will appeal to the right reader.

Honestly, I was a little concerned that this book is the first in a ten-book series. It raises the bar that much higher since it takes something very special to keep my attention for that long. So, does this series deserve such a big commitment?

YES!

I really love this book. It is atmospheric, unique, and super creepy. I could tell right away that a lot of research went into it (from the different locations, to the time periods, to all the historical references). The characters are interesting and multidimensional, which is not always the case in paranormal novels so this was a pleasant surprise. The story captured my attention immediately. It is the kind of book that you want to pick up without knowing too much about the story. The way every point of view intertwines keeps the story fresh and unexpected. I loved that so much. Actually, I pretty loved everything about it, even the incredible design (seriously, the format adds so much to the story). I can't wait to know what happens next!

If you're looking for a new series that has plenty of heart-pounding fun, definitely check out Onyx Webb!

Original review can be found at the bandar (b)log

When I read the blurb about Onyx Webbby Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz, my interest was piqued. "Onyx Webb is a multi-genre mash-up that combines supernatural suspense, crime, horror, romance, and more." AND MORE?! How many genres can one book have?

The authors claim that their book is unique, and frankly, I don't think there's a better way to describe it.

The first book in the Onyx Webb series introduces a slew of characters (including the title's namesake, Onyx Webb) via episodic-type chapters. These chapters jump from location to location, and the year they take place range from 1904 to 2010. The characters are from all walks of life: billionaire prodigal son, elderly Southern serial killer, gypsy child with a foretold curse, young piano-playing celebrity, AND MORE.

How these characters lives and stories weave together will ultimately be revealed fully throughout the series; however, in book one you begin to see little threads weaving their lives together.

WHAT I LURVED!
1) The pace: A lot happens in this 200-page book. The chapters are short and easy to digest, so you fly through the novel. The numerous plot twists don't hurt the pacing either!
2) The creep factor: There is a lot of eerie stuff that goes on, and the horror-lover in me just eats it up. To those that don't love horror: this book toes a perfect line between too much detail (which I would love) and too little. So if you don't like horror/creepy stuff, don't let the weirdness alone deter you.
3) The characters: The characters are wonderfully odd, so I loved all of them! Also, their names. The names are oh-so strange (Obedience, Onyx, Juniper, Catfish, Stormy, Koda - and MORE!), and there is little that I love in a book more than super bizarre names.

This book is definitely not for everyone; however, I could see people who enjoy the episodic quality, the creepiness, and all the oddities loving this series. If this book sounds like it's for you, I'd suggest you give it a try (I can at least promise it will be a quick read!).

I first want to thank Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton for sending me a copy of Onyx Webb: Book 1: Episodes 1, 2 and 3 in an exchange for an honest review.
Now, I will preface my review with this; I often save my five star reviews. I’m known to give four stars to books I love and admire. I am extremely critical but fair. That being said, Onyx Webb has received a soaring five stars from me.
Waltz and Fenton created a world unlike any other. They warn their readers that this story is unique and will leave you with unanswered questions. I may have scoffed at this opening statement. However, the moment I opened it and read page one, they got me; hook, line and sinker.
Onyx Webb is a gripping thriller of the paranormal variety. However, this is not your typical ghost story. While the title suggests that this is a story from Onyx Webb (a ghost), an assortment of other characters are introduced as the story unfolds. From billionaire Koda Mulvaney to Juiper Cole (an abductee) there are a slew of characters whose stories are bound to intertwine. They leave you second guessing yourself at the turn of every page.
Each character has their own narrative in the story and we are only given glimpses of what is to come. The worst thing about Onyx Webb: Book 1 is that I don’t already have book 2 in my possession. I admire the writing technique that Fenton and Waltz use throughout their unveiling of the supernatural world that is Onyx Webb. I haven’t been left in such a whirlwind of “I have to know what comes next” from a book in a very long time.
If you can handle not having immediate answers and you live for suspense, I highly recommend this book to you. Can you speculate how it ends? I challenge you to try because my guess is you won’t be able to see this bombshell coming.

Even though this new edition includes the first three episodes, I don't have much more to say than what I said in my review of the first episode. There's more story, but it still didn't get anywhere, and it took me less than a day to read it. I'm left with lots of questions, and looking at the release schedule in the copy I received, I'm not sure if I want to invest that much time or money in getting those questions answered. Perhaps if the episodes were condensed down into fewer books, I would be more interested.

I guess I was expecting the story to be like a tv show; perhaps slow at first, but intriguing, and each successive episode drawing me further into the story. However, the setup for what happened to Onyx and how all the other characters tie into her story is taking too long. All the way through to the end of episode 3, new characters are introduced with no way of telling if they're important or not. Most of my reading notes consist of a long list of names, just in case I would meet them again and need to remind myself who they are. Despite giving the first episode four stars, I don't feel there's enough story in the remainder of this book to give it any more than three.

Initially I was a bit lost as to what to write in my review. This story was unlike any I have read before. This is book 1 of a series that will be told over a course of nine books consisting of three episodes each. The episodes are not self-contained; as such to understand the course of events they must be read in order. Embedded in each episode are twists, turns and surprises that will compel you to keep turning the pages as you are eager to uncover the mysteries of Onyx Webb.

When I was asked to review this title I was on the verge of refusing because I felt that this would not be for me. However, when I reached the last sentence of the blurb I was intrigued and I decided right then and there that I would give this book a chance. I am so very glad I did. The story was riveting and difficult to put down.
Onyx Webb is a unique mixture of history, mystery, suspense and the paranormal. The story spans more than one time period and features an eclectic mix of characters. The story moves forward and backward in time. Some readers may find this disconcerting; however the way in which the authors present the shifts between times did not in any way cause confusion.

The story features three main characters from different time periods, the 1900’s, 1970’s and 2000. At first I thought to myself what do these characters and the periods have in common, however as I progressed through the story the connections slowly became clear. The characters were well developed and I was able to connect with each of them.

The authors’ writing style was descriptive which made it easy to see the events through the eyes of each of the characters. The story was well paced and it’s evident that quite amount of research went into preparing this story. The historical events were spot on and it aided in the enhancement of the story.

This installment has whetted my appetite for more. I can’t wait to get my hands on the remaining books as I am eager to know how the story will play out. If you are looking for a story that’s unique and exciting that’s filled with history, suspense, mystery and have a touch of the paranormal then Onyx Webb is just the book for you.
