This was pretty bad. I picked this up because I was interested to see Constantine in a group, of course this is more DC-esque than your normal Hellblazer Vertigo line. Anyways, it didn't actually work, for me, Constantine just doesn't work with the DC world.
For that, it felt so out of place and wrong.
PS - the new 52 reboot doesn't seem to make any sense to me either!

Have comics regressed? I have not been an active reader of comics for quite awhile, but I saw this at the library and thought the premise was stupid but interesting. It certainly was stupid and certainly was not interesting. The writing/plot was at the logic level of a kindergartner (totally inane), but the subject matter was overly bloody and gruesome. I guess they have regressed - before comics could be stupid. Now they are stupid and nihilistic. Utter crap.

This graphic novel did a good job at making me fall in love with this incarnation of Justice League Dark, despite having an art style that I wasn’t particularly fond of. I loved these characters, even the ones I were meeting for the first time. I found these characters to be much more compelling than the normal Justice League as they explored horror tropes and themes.

Was a pretty good read. Was hoping for a bit more from Zatanna but she got very glossed over in this first volume in comparison to the other charas. Still gonna read the rest of the series though.

I feel bad about this rating, but it's just kind of a mess. By themselves, most of these characters are interesting. All jammed together in one book, they fight for too much space and make it pure mud.

I like all of these characters, but this story of them being forced to come together didn't really do it for me. Maybe I'll find their next story arc more compelling...

Interesting characters and decent plot for gathering them together. I feel like I'd need to know more about the DC universe to fully appreciate.

I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself. The recent DC reboots are terrible, proven time and again across multiple books. This is not the exception.

I really like Constantine. When handled properly he is an amazing character. Here he’s merely okay, and Deadman feels indistinguishable from him. I don’t have any attachment to the other characters here, which is generally a huge bonus when it comes to reboots/reimagings/reinterpretations, but I kept feeling there was something missing. That something, of course, is their backstory, which is assumed by the writer that you’ll know. But I don’t, so it feels like plot holes are opening everywhere as a result.

Between Marvel’s constant crossovers and DC’s interminable reboots, it’s a wonder anyone reads stuff from the Big Two any more. This is why I only use the library for the newer stuff, and why I focus more on books outside these ecosystems.

The art’s solid here, though. Not that it does any good.
