Curse of the Seelie King had so many tropes that I love, but it just didn’t land right.

The story gave me a little bit of whiplash. Between the mentality of romanticized historical fiction where women are property and a more modern mentality about being allowed to try to marry for love (just an example)… The couple raced into feelings, at a near instalove pace then they fight and makeup with whiplash speed at the drop of a hat.

I didn’t feel seated enough in the emotions and internal dialogue of each character. Decisions felt flip-floppy, even if dialogue had characters reiterating exact phrases within a page of each other. The general through line of where bodies are in the space of a scene is severely disjointed. Characters being in one part of the room, then without any description of movement, are suddenly on another side.

By 52%, everything from the author’s book trailer has happened and I found myself not interested enough to push myself to finish the book and find out who the big bad was. I did, just so I could be sure there actually was one. I was skeptical for a little… but I truly just didn’t care enough about this story to continue with the series.

I did giggle about the Mr. Darcy hand flex, though!

I received an ARC of The Curse of the Seelie King in exchange for my honest review.
