The part when the spider queen runs with a hord of monions to the crimson army was dumb. why would she charge like that? other then that the book have some new idies that i really liked, a player who got stuck as a sentient dungeon? cool stuff! invasion from a big bad that killing him will end the world? also intersting! the MC not wining every damn fight becuse he "beleives!", now thats a new concept ;)

all in all 4.5 stars, the half star is deducted becuse of the cheep use of the spider queen for drama and for the parts he describe every pice of furniture he use in his master suite.

This is my second time reading through this series because the new book came out and I needed a refresher (my stars are from this read through since I did not rate it on my last read).

I didn’t remember a large chunk of this book and I think it is because it is large scale warfare and planning. That stuff just doesn’t interest me, which is why I am giving it a lower review (read very biased star rating).

I enjoyed getting to know new characters and seeing the different strategies planning but when
there is chapters and chapters of action and warfare, I just get bored.

I think it is because I know that no one important is going to die *This is not a spoiler it is a general feeling when reading theses books* (not because I read the books before but because I do not feel like they are ever in any real danger) maybe it is because most of the important characters can respawn and there hasn’t been any examples in the earlier books that anyone important would die. We never saw anyone die during the transitions, all the NPC companions that died did it before we met the players and the NPCs that do die aren’t really people we know or care about. It just makes things lower stakes maybe but when I do not fear for someone life I get bored.

The book was well written, and the pacing was good. There were enough elements that should keep someone who is interested in a large-scale warfare book to really enjoy this. It is just not a book for me.

Mini-Review:

4.5 Stars for Narration by Armen Taylor
3 Stars for Story
2 Stars for Pacing

The books need to be longer. Author does a nice job of balancing action with personal moments but the overall plot and character developments are sloppy & so-so on timing. Overall, I like the series and I plan to chomp on the rest but I feel like it could be much better than what I've read thus far. Loads of potential. The characters and events need more fleshing out.

VGO is one of my first (and most enduring) loves in the litRPG genre. And this, book 4, definitely does not disappoint! It is crammed with action and awesomeness. I am, very soon, moving on to book 5, hurrah! I greatly enjoyed reading each book in this series and highly recommend it.

Read via Kindle Unlimited.

The inevitable war with the Empire begins. MC is still a little annoyingly righteous, but the story remains mostly entertaining.
