This started out so quick with the action and the story and that is hard for me sometimes…I need to be in the world a little bit to figure it out. But, I really liked the trials and Oraya, Raihn, and of course Mische.

The one thing I will forever be thinking about is what exactly does sky and falling taste like? I hate that. It's not poetic, it's lazy.

But I read the book in 2 days and will start the next in the series within the hour, so I did enjoy it thoroughly. I liked the ending and am curious to see the story play out.

I do think the writing was a bit too stream of consciousness for my personal taste and didn't feature rich enough descriptions. And I do wish that instead of time passing and us being told that the characters bonded, we got more insight into the development of their relationships. Especially with the side character. I truly thought I missed something with the amount of love she was thrown, but I'm pretty sure she just liked to put flowers in the house and giggle. It'd be lovely to actually see her "bubbly personality" in action next book.

While I loved the premise and plot of this book, I felt very detached from the characters and the world. Most books I think should be shorter, but this was one of the few instances where I thought it should be longer. It didn’t feel like she had enough time to develop the characters, explain their backgrounds, give justice to the trials. One of the aspects that I really would have liked to dive deeper into was Vincent and Orayas relationship. Because at the end of the book I still can’t comprehend why Oraya doesn’t realize that Raihn was giving her an escape from someone she had been a human slave to for years. Maybe Stockholm syndrome?

I rather enjoyed her writing style, and would argue it is substantially better than people like Sarah Janet. It is simply a more informal/colloquial way of writing that I can understand is a turn off for people. I do hate that she fell into the “teeny weeny girly who is so stwong and emotionally manipulated by her male role model but can’t imagine running shit on her own when given the chance” trap. I did find the romance to be very bland, the chemistry felt manufactured and similar to SJM, has the issue of reducing flirting to using the same few phrases over and over and over.
