This book has been on my TBR shelf for so long and I'm so glad I finally got to get to it. It brought me back to my Percy Jackson obsession days, and it helped further reinforce my new year resolution of reading more books that bring me joy.

I'm so happy to be back in this world!! In the Lost Hero we follow three new demigods who set out on a quest to save Queen Hera and ultimately stop the giant Porphyrion from rising.

The Characters:
I get so frustrated when characters have amnesia or lost memories. The cause is definitely my impatience and my want to know everything. So, when the one who could provide so many answers has amnesia there were points where I wanted to throw this book at the wall. It did give me so much respect for Jason though. If these were my feelings as the reader I can't imagine how it would feel to be living through it. I don't think this would be considered a spoiler as you find out near the beginning but it was such a great choice to make Jason a son of Zeus! He's super powerful and I'm excited to see where it leads in future books!

Piper was harboring a secret for a good 3/4 of the book and the way she felt alone and unworthy of her friends is true for so many teenage girls. It isn't often that a male author can capture these emotions so clearly. And I'm with Jason, Piper doesn't need anything to make her beautiful. She was beautiful before being claimed and she remained so after. Without Leo, this book could have been pretty heavy. He always had a joke or ridiculous comment up his sleeve to lighten up the mood at just the right time. And the fire powers??? I'm not gonna lie, I am very jealous.

This book was longer than any of the Percy Jackson books, but looking back there was nothing that I think should or could have been omitted. All of their stops along the way were relevant to the quest and the way the chapters were divided up between the three characters evened out the plot really well. I am so looking forward to hearing more about the Rome element. I'm a little obsessed with Ancient Rome and I can't wait to see what part it plays in future books!

A big thank you to Rick Riordan!! Happy Reading :)

2018 - Book #12 of 100 : My goal this year is to re-read all of Rick Riordan's books, so here we are. Book 1 of Heroes of Olympus. This is not my favorite of his books nor my favorite of this series, but it is still good. I remember struggling with how early it becomes obvious that
SpoilerRoman Demigods exist and Jason is one of them
and how LONG it takes everyone to come to that conclusion. However, over the course of this series, Leo becomes one of my favorite characters, and it was interesting to get to know him all over again. Onto Book 2!
