Fun, clever book. I did have to explain it a bit to my students. Perhaps I should have differentiated more in the voice of the narrator and Snappsy. They were a little confused.

Silly. Fourth wall breaking picture book. But the narrator is kind of an annoying bully. It turns out all right and there is some clever writing and art. But not good enough to make up for the framing of the story. 2.5 of 5.

I love books that make fun of themselves and their genres a little bit. This was really cute, and really silly, and I think parents would enjoy it as much as their kids.

Snappsy the Alligator just wanted a normal quiet day, until the Narrator showed up and started making his life sound boring and terrible! So they fight. And it's amazing.

Not only an unreliable narrator, but a needy one too! Of course, Snappsy steals the show by having the best come backs. Laughs abound in this fun book.

Hilarious!!! Great story with super fun illustrations, that can also be used as an introduction to narration and differing perspectives. Highly recommended for all ages.

I'm on a roll for having been only mildly entertained by the children's books with supposedly clever tricks that have been nominated for the 2016 GoodReads Choice awards. I saw this one on a best-of-list back in August and thought we'd enjoy it. It was okay.

"You're an awful narrator," Snappsy the Alligator says to the narrator of the book. "You're just describing what you see in the illustrations."

I guess I'm not one to really be thrilled with 2nd person writing and "clever" children's books that take the entire book to get to the punchline. Honestly, I saw this on the bookshelf a few days later and realized I'd forgotten how it ended. I think I'd not check out these "clever" books from the library in the first place without having seen them on some list of magnificent books. Or perhaps my expectations are too high because I see such books in a list of wonderful books and my idea of wonderful children's books are something with an enduring story that begs to be read again and again.
