I LOVE this.
When I first started these graphic novels, I said that they would help me determine if I love or hate king Maxim.
While I'm still not sure how I feel about King Maxim, I am now certain that I absolutely adore Prince Maxim.
I'm really enjoying this part of his story, the friendship, the personal growth and the adventures are so gripping, so well written and the art is so well done!
I need more!

Finally stakes get a bit higher as characters play dirty.
I enjoyed this issue the best, I believe, since it was hard to foresee what the outcome was going to be.

I’m really torn about this, the story was ok, but didn’t blow me alway like I thought it would. I understand that they only have so many pages per issue, but I felt like this needed to be longer then a 4 issue story arc as it felt rushed at times and I still after reading it don’t know much about ‘Maxim’ as a character. I get they might do more with the character in future story arcs, but as a stand-alone comic series I didn’t give me the excitement when reading the shade of magic series. The artwork didn’t work for me so maybe they made me feel disconnected to the story, but overall it was ok, but I only wish there was more flesh to it.

I’m so sad that I’ve already read all four of these! I should have stretched them out and savoured them but they were just so damn good that I couldn’t help but binge read all of them in one sitting. No matter what form she’s writing whether graphic novel, young adult, middle grade or adult, Schwab knows how to write one hell of a captivating story that you can’t help but fall in love with! I thought this final instalment of the first arc was the best out of the bunch and I honestly couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Can I have the next series NOW please?!

This was a great way to end the first arc of the Shades comic series. I really liked that Maxim doesn’t seem as cocky as he was in the first few issues. But I also know that all of his cocky attitude hasn’t gone away. A solid three and a half stars for this one!

Of course, I love the Shades of Magic series, its one of my favorites, so I jumped at the chance to read King Maxim's origin story. I think the whole retro graphic novel feel fell flat for me. I would love to see a different art style for the next issues. Overall the story was cool, but it was so dark it was hard to follow at some points. It was very cool to see the other covers and the authors notes in the back.

(I forgot to post this review after I finished it) -- This was brilliant!! This one had even more action than the previous 3 and we got to see even more of the Red London magic in the artwork!!😄😄 The ending wasn't what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHERE THE NEXT VOLUMES GO!!!!😄😄😄😄

I like how it ended. Definitely ready to see more of Maxim and the people who are supporting him. The next one, Night of Knives, sounds so good! This one was a good lead up to the next novel and it was a good read.
