A simple story well told through various points of view and the use of overlapping timeframes. Probably my least favourite of the 4 Lawson novels I've read, but still rewarding!

I was so surprised by this book because I knew nothing about it and just picked it up from the library randomly! The writing was fantastic and I loved that the different POV’s were distinctly written in those characters voices. The story is intriguing and has you wondering what is going to come next, but doesn’t evoke anxious feelings. Perfect book for rainy cozy days set in a quiet and idyllic small town.

4.5 I picked up A Town Called Solace totally on the recommendation of the What Should I Read Next podcast. And I enjoyed it so much more than I expected.
It follows three separate characters all linked by past and present tragedy in a tiny northern Ontario town of Solace. The characters are well developed and sympathetic and definitely imperfect, but that's what makes them seem real.
I had a few unanswered questions that made this slightly less than an 5 star read but I absolutely loved the ending. I definitely enjoyed the open ended but hopeful conclusion in spite of those lingering questions. Overall a great character-driven story.
