This was fine, but it didn’t feel like anything happened until the last 30%.
My prediction for book 2 is basically: Unravel Me but set in a Persian-inspired kingdom instead of dystopian America. But I did like Unravel Me, so I might read it.

Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me. The pacing was terrible, and everything just seemed to be so slow and a lot of the descriptions were just very, unnecessarily wordy and the characters were just so unlikable even they couldn't keep me interested.

HOLY HECK! Y'all are sleeping on this book - my heart. Someone said this book had it all and it does. Persian mythology, stunning world building, compelling character development, forbidden romance with a touch of forced proximity, prophecy, and a cute insect side kick situation??? And a dragon??? I am not someone who see things as they read but I was able to immerse myself in this book because despite its third person POV it provides much insight into how the characters are feeling, their decisions, and motivations. I am so curious to see where this story goes next - very grateful the second book is already out so I can jump in whenever. I was so happily surprised by this book and I wouldn't have found it without Libby - quick shoutout to the local library, the real MVP.
