a few things i jotted down while reading:
- this book feels like i’m having a chat with my dear friend on a visit to the psych ward
- i truly with every fiber of my being thought that “herbs” were weed
- her library fees have got to be astronomical like we see her take books out frequently and never return not one

I feel there are a lot of great moments in this book but I was left wanting more development. I felt confused by the relationship between the main character and her husband. This is the point, I think, but I just felt that the lack of fleshing out the husband's character made me confused about some of the main character's motivations or decisions relating to him. I also felt that I needed more of a conclusion for the plotline
Spoilerabout Wanda White. I didn't need an explicit answer about who she was but I felt that this thread got tied up too quickly and I was left wanting more.
Spoiler Overall, I enjoyed the book, but felt more interested in certain parts / themes than others.

Feral femininity feminism unfortunately is still a bit too toothless for me. Good for these dog moms though.

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect in this book, but it was wildly different from what I originally pictured. In a good way though. As fucked up as the characters were, they were presented in a way that made them feel all strangely lovable. I came around to the husband and the MLM mom by the end. The nightbitch was fascinating too, although sometimes hard to follow her train of thought. Overall, I get it though.... even though I'm not a mom, living around a ton of straight, white people in the Midwest does make me want to run feral around my neighborhood with dogs, roll in the grass and mud, and perhaps eat a rare steak or two! The ending
Spoiler was good - I was worried it was going to leave off at a super bleak place, but I was like HELL YES at the end with the performance art to the group of moms. The world always needs more feral women.

Nightbitch is a story of pent-up frustration, wolfish hunger, and fierce love. Yoder's protagonist is complicated by her seemingly perfect surroundings and wrathful loneliness, and is a woman who is not altogether miserable or satisfied. She learns to lean in to her animal instincts and to revel in the wildness and brutality of raising a tiny human ripped from her own body and blood. This may be the book with the most amount of quotes I've ever highlighted. I adored Yoder's use of language and her protagonist's unfeigned self-expression. This is a layered, nuanced, and humorous tale of a woman asserting her power, one that ends with a triumphant understanding that underneath our civilities, we are animals with a natural and savage inclinations to love ourselves and our own.
