This is a book I really needed right now! Would recommended to everyone whether you are in the creative industry or not. Beautifully written. Made me miss performing live so badly!!!

Kae Tempest weaves together yet more beautiful writing in this deceptively small and simple book that captures this moment in history with delicacy and humanity. Part personal essay, part polemic, but wholly engaging and resonant, as Kae notes of James Joyce: “In the particular is contained the universal” — and how so here.

Made me weep and smile and think and feel so, so much! They're a gorgeous writer and I read this heartfelt and soul stirring book at a very apt time in my life. Yum!

A wonderful meditation on the power of creativity and connection. Small (120 pages) but mighty and vulnerable and inspiring.

It feels ludicrous reviewing this artistic unification of essay, prose, and performance, but I will inexpertly craft some words which will fail to express how important this art, this connection, was (is) to me at a fractured intersection of my life.
Imagine you are a person who simultaneously craves, abandons, avoids, fears and hopes for connection. This person is me. It’s maybe you. It’s definitely someone. It seems to me like an extraordinarily rare occurrence when someone speaks to you and, not only seems to understand your crisis, but elegantly and powerfully counsels you on it. This is how I feel about Kae and what they’ve written, said, performed here.
I came expecting entertainment and left feeling seen, connected with.
When for so long I couldn’t understand how to leave this dark corner of my life, and had decided that maybe it wasn’t possible, Kae has offered a direction. Maybe not a solution, that’s mine to find, but some hope that there’s meaning for me beyond this life in which I find myself existing.
I’m certain I’ll be back.
