This was a quick read and great to think about a mindset shift for how to approach quarantine as an opportunity to simplify, spend time with family and get hygge. The writer thinks she is funny, plays dumb, and centers herself way too much, which is the book’s main downfall. Also there is little exploration of Denmark’s homogeneity and how that plays into everyone “getting along.” Anyway it was fun.

I enjoyed this so much, learning about Danish culture and customs through the eyes of new expats. Helen Russell writes with great affection for her new home and I had numerous laugh-out-loud moments.
I just need to find a similar book on Spain!

I really enjoyed this - it's a bit of a documentary, but with plenty of warmth. It's fact heavy but the author does a good job of making them personal and relatable, and by the end you'll be feeling like you understand that famous Nordic quality of life like you lived in Denmark too.

This was a cute, fun and funny look at assimilating to life in another country. It was “self-help” light with info on how Danes stay happy in a land of ice and blackness half the year and how you can apply to your own life.

Interesting read. I don’t share the author’s political views and her perspective is based on growing up in the UK. But still interesting.
